Manchester City has now made an official announcement to the effect that Hugo Viana is going to be his successor in the position of the director of football beginning from the next summer, that is, 2025.
It is in this backdrop that, after almost a decade at the club, Begiristain is set to retire at the end of the 2024/25 season, which signifies the end of an era for the club. Hugo Viana of Sporting CP is also a former player; he joined Newcastle United and Valencia later.
He also represented the Portugal national team, where he gained his 29 senior international appearances between 2001 and 2012. Since 2018, Viana has been the Sporting CP Director of Football, and the club that was managed by him succeeded in achieving many accomplishments, including being the national league champion in 2021 and 2024.
People have said that he brings to the table strategic thinking and talent detection, which are practices perfect for a club like Manchester City. Hugo Viana will officially assume his position in the summer of 2025, yet he will work with Begiristain before starting his new duties.
This is expected to lead to stability in the management of the club’s footballing responsibilities in particular and its overall operations in general. Manchester City has also issued an appreciation for Begiristain’s effort, stating that most of his effort has gone a long way in enhancing the current success of the football club.
Now that Hugo Viana is the next to take the job, Manchester City fans can get ready for a new era in the team’s history. Appointing such a talented manager is a sign that the club wishes to continue dominating domestic football as well as the European leagues.
